Letters From Freedom Summer is a collaboratively developed play with music, based on the heroic 1964 non violent student movement that brought black and white young people together from across the country and helped changed the way blacks in Mississippi became able to vote and participate in our democratic society. Throughout its development, as a commission of UMKC Theatre, it has been also able to benefit from two years of script development workshops involving students of UMKC’s professional training program.

Audra McDonald is unparalleled in the breadth and versatility of her artistry, as both a singer and an actress. With a record six Tony Awards, two Grammy® Awards, and a long list of other accolades to her name, she is among today’s most highly regarded performers. Blessed with a luminous soprano voice and an incomparable gift for dramatic truth telling, she is equally at home on Broadway, opera stages and in concert halls as she is in roles on film and television. Share in this special one-night-only performance with the Kansas City Symphony as Audra visits the American Songbook as only she can.

SUNDAY
GOOD MUSIC. GOOD PEOPLE. GOOD FOOD. GOOD BRUNCH.

The GLS community is based off a simple concept. Connecting like minded individuals, creating a great vibe, and living a good life. Leave your judgements and stress at the door, we encourage authentic connections around here. We're creating a community. GLS members come to see familiar faces but always leave meeting new people along the way. If you're new to Kansas City or just looking for something outside of your circle, come vibe with us.

Urban Cafe KC's new food truck will be popping up on Broadway this Sunday! Grab a coffee at Monarch and one of Urban Cafe's delicious breakfast offerings. They'll be bringing their famous vegan tofu scramble, smoothie bowls, turkey sausage bagels, & overnight oats.
Peacemaking is a skill that requires practice and repetition. Without it, it is difficult to know how to respond when encountering various forms of conflict or violence in Kansas City. Join us for lunch and an interactive workshop aimed at equipping people with practical tools to disrupt, distract and diffuse tense situations, both around the dinner table as well as out in the larger community. For our shared meal, we will be having a pizza, so if you're able, please bring a side item or dessert to share.

Join the Royals in honoring the Negro Leagues on Sunday, May 6! Royals players will wear throwback Kansas City Monarchs uniforms, and Detroit will wear Stars uniforms. Following the game, the game-worn, autographed jerseys will be auctioned with proceeds benefiting the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.
LATER IN THE MONTH

The key to each event is simple. All who attend will be given one of three bracelets to wear:

Red: Taken
Yellow: It’s Complicated
Green: Single AF

As each event draws nearer, check the Wire Weekender email for more details on location and specifics. Shoutout to everyone in the #ProjectBlackDating GroupMe who’ve helped bring this vision to fruition. Hope to see you out at a few functions and #StayWired!
